Older Galaxy screen protectors: what is still sold, and what has gone

These phones are ten to fourteen years old and plenty are still in daily use. The protector market has not kept up with them evenly.

The short answer. As of our check, the Galaxy S5 and S5 mini still have protectors on sale, the S4 is down to between one and three depending on the country, the S3 and A5 (2015) to at most one and not everywhere, and for the Galaxy S2 and Note 3 we could not confirm a single one in any market. All of these phones have flat screens and no under-display fingerprint sensor, so any protector cut for the exact model works — the difficulty is finding one, and not buying something made for a tablet or a watch by mistake.

What is realistically still buyable

We check every product on this site individually against the local Amazon, and for these models the result is uneven:

That is not a permanent verdict — old stock reappears and sellers relist. It is what we could confirm on the day shown below the shelf.

Your exact model, and the ones it gets confused with

Protectors for these phones are cut to the millimetre, and Samsung shipped several similar-sounding phones each year. Check the model code in Settings → About phone, or printed under the battery on the models that have a removable back.

Search results

Why the listings you find are mostly the wrong device

When we pulled listings for these models, the results included Galaxy Tab S3 and Tab S4 tablets, a Gear S3 watch, a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, a Galaxy S22 and a Galaxy A05. Not one of those fits the phone it was returned for.

Three habits fix most of it: read the full title rather than the thumbnail, treat the words Tab, Gear and Watch as disqualifying, and remember that a two-digit number (A05, S22, Note 20) is a modern phone, not your old one.

Old stock

What to expect from a protector made a decade ago

Most of what is left is old inventory. Adhesive does age: a sheet that has sat in a warehouse for years can bond less evenly than a fresh one, which shows up as edges that lift. Nothing about that is dangerous, but it argues for buying a multipack rather than a single, and for preferring listings that still collect recent reviews.

The good news is that these are simple phones to cover. The screens are flat, so tempered glass sits properly, and none of them has a fingerprint reader under the display — the S5's sensor is in the home button — so privacy and matte films carry none of the unlocking risk they do on modern phones.

When there is genuinely nothing for your model

If your phone is one of the unsupported ones, the options are narrow and worth stating plainly:

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you still buy a screen protector for the Galaxy S5?

Yes. Of the older Galaxy phones, the S5 and S5 mini are the best supplied — we confirmed several protectors for both, including multipacks.

Are there screen protectors for the Galaxy S2 or Note 3?

We could not confirm one on sale for either, in any of our markets. Searches return results, but they are for other devices such as the Galaxy S22, Note 20 or a Galaxy Tab. A wipe-on liquid coating is the realistic fallback.

How do I know which old Galaxy I have?

Check the model code in Settings → About phone, or under the battery on models with a removable back. GT-I9100 is the S2, GT-I9300 the S3, GT-I9500 or I9505 the S4, SM-N9000 or N9005 the Note 3, SM-G900 the S5, SM-G800F the S5 mini and SM-A500F the A5 (2015).

Why do searches for old Galaxy protectors show tablets and watches?

Because the model names collide: Galaxy Tab S3 and Gear S3 both contain "S3", and A05, S22 and Note 20 look similar to A5, S2 and Note 3. Treat Tab, Gear and Watch as disqualifying words.

Is a decade-old screen protector still any good?

Usually, though aged adhesive can bond less evenly and lift at the edges. Buy a multipack rather than a single, and prefer listings that still attract recent reviews.

Do privacy or matte films cause problems on these phones?

No. None of them has a fingerprint reader under the display — the S5 reads fingerprints through its home button — so the usual sensor warnings do not apply.
