iPhone 16 Pro Max screen protectors: the biggest iPhone front to get right

A 6.9-inch front is the least forgiving surface to fit by hand, which makes the alignment tray matter more than the glass.

The short answer. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is 6.9-inch, 163.0 × 77.6 × 8.25 mm. Buy glass listed for it — a couple of brands, including Spigen and NEW’C, cover the 16 Pro Max and 17 Pro Max in one listing — and prefer a pack with an alignment tray, because a screen this size shows every millimetre of crookedness. Face ID means privacy film is safe here.

Fit

What else this glass fits

The 16 Pro Max measures 163.0 × 77.6 × 8.25 mm. Two of the listings we checked — from Spigen and NEW'C — cover it together with the 17 Pro Max. Most, though, are cut for the 16 Pro Max alone, so read the model list rather than the screen size.

Installation

On a 6.9-inch front, the tray is the product

Most failed installs are dust and misalignment, not bad glass, and both get worse as the screen gets bigger. Brands whose packs include an alignment tray — Spigen's EZ Fit, Belkin's Easy Align — take most of that risk away; our brand comparison sets out what each includes.

Face ID

Privacy and matte both stay on the table

With Face ID there is no under-display fingerprint sensor to break, so privacy and matte finishes are purely a question of taste: privacy costs brightness and viewing angle, matte costs a little sharpness and hides smudges. See our privacy guide.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What size is the iPhone 16 Pro Max?

A 6.9-inch display in a body measuring 163.0 × 77.6 × 8.25 mm.

Do iPhone 17 Pro Max protectors fit the 16 Pro Max?

A few listings cover both, including ones from Spigen and NEW’C, but most are cut for one or the other. Read the model list on the listing.

What should I look for on a screen this size?

An alignment tray above all. On a 6.9-inch front, dust and a fraction of a degree of tilt are far more visible than any difference between one sheet of tempered glass and another.

Can I use a privacy screen protector on the iPhone 16 Pro Max?

Yes. iPhones unlock with Face ID, so privacy film only affects brightness and viewing angle.
